A few days ago I wrote a post about Freshlife Automated Sprouter I got at the Raw Spirit Festival.
It arrived about a week ago along with several packages of sprouting seeds I got at the same time. Anxious to get started, I loaded up the Sprouter with a variety of seeds and beans and I am very happy to report that I just "picked" my first harvest!
Here's the image of my sprouter (two trays, one with the remainder of buckwheat and sunflowers sprouts and the other with green peas and red lentil still sprouting).
In just one week I got a nice amount of sunflower, buckwheat and mung beans sprouts, green pea and lentil sprouts, along with some wheatgrass (not shown here, half of it is juiced and the other half is in the fridge). Now, since this was my first experiment I did a little bit of everything just to see how much comes out and how fast. Those two containers of alfalfa sprouts you see above came from about 2 tablespoons of seeds! Definitely beats buying them at a supermarket, and they are organic, pure, and grown with love.
What really impressed me though is just how fast these spouts came to life. For example, most sprouting tables say that sunflower seeds are ready in 10-12 days, however, I picked mine in just seven days. Same goes for wheatgrass. Green peas are supposed to be ready in 3-4 days and yet I got mine fully sprouted in just 2!
This is such an amazing machine, I am considering buying a second unit just to be able to grow more volume of sprouts. Last night I made myself nori wraps with Alissa Cohen's salmon pate and my freshly picked spouts and it was the most delicious meal I've had since Raw Spirit Festival!
And although I bought my unit from Tribest at a discount, I found it at even better price at Amazon.com
And if you want to see this wonderful machine in action and you are in NYC area, do come to my upcoming Raw Food for Beginners class when I do a whole segment on sprouting and various methods of doing it. Not to be missed!
